Kylie Jean Thompson
Kylie Thompson is a Toronto based artist, illustrator, and muralist. She graduated from the Ontario College of Arts and Design in 2013 focusing in fibre arts. With a passion for story, her work often touches on themes of time passing and nostalgia. Kylie draws her inspiration from comic art, stories of discovering mystical lands, and liminal / abandoned spaces.
Artist Statement
Kylie specializes in alien/mystical landscapes. Often inspired by abandoned buildings and sci-fi imagery. Her work offers a sense of escapism while being grounded in familiarity. Exploring the idea of eternalism, she draws on nostalgia and her own memories to create a greater narrative around time. There is often a consciousness of the human imprint on an environment that’s been overgrown, suggesting a pause or moment of peace. While the subject matter often creates a scene wrapped in mystery, Kylie’s use of bold colours and flat textures draw on her sense of play and whimsy.
